Old Nata

I found this old rusty nata about 75 years old,

without a handle & decided to renew it.

This old nata was more that likely made in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima.

The steel to make it might have once been a old samurai's weapon. 

The handle I hand carved out of umoregi ( bog wood )

The name stamped on the blade is Tengu. 

I wet sanded it as not to heat the steel & lose the temper.

I've renewed about five natas, lots of fun!

Never die they just smell that way!

Kings this size & bigger are rare nowadays!

Largely due to the over fishing of pollock used in making surimi!

During the catching process millions of other fish are kill & thrown over board!

These giant processing ships are not allowed to keep their by catch by law. Some are doing so illegally! 

Of course this only increases the decimation of wild stocks of fish that belongs to all of us. Many of these other fish populations are also declining pollock fishing is the largest & most wasteful fishery in the world!

MANKIND GREED working hard to make the RICH RICHER!!! 

 There are many other reasons that are also causing the decline, you could write a book

about it & add a few new pages every year!

If there is a future for our oceans, mankind need to do something soon

while its still a renewable resorce. 

Next time you eat surimi or Mac. fish burger, fake crab & other products.

Ask yourself what will my children & grand children eat in the future.
